History

The Zabriskie House, also known as the Van Voorhees-Quackenbush House, is an historic mansion located in the town of Wyckoff, Bergen County, New Jersey. Originally built in 1740, the house was enlarged by its owner, Albert Van Voorhees, in 1824. Van Voorhees was a carpenter, and he built the house using traditional Dutch techniques. The house is made of stone and has a thatched roof. It is two stories tall, and it has a cellar.

The Zabriskie House, a 1730 Dutch farmhouse listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of the oldest houses in the area. The property is now owned by the township, operated by a board of trustees. The original house was built by William Van Voorhees, who used it as a store and tavern during the Revolutionary War. In the late 1800s, the Quackenbush family purchased the house. The Zabriskie family eventually sold it to Albert's daughter, who built the second building. The house was left to the township in 1973 by her granddaughter, who had served in the Bergen County militia during the Revolutionary War.
